We continue to be encouraged at the level of interest today’s students have for tomorrow’s manufacturing industry.  Avanti Engineering was proud to sponsor a MFG Day 2019 event on October 4th.  We invited students from Lake Park High School- East Campus, Wheaton Warrenville South High School, and Hinsdale District 86 Transition Center.

We hosted these 39 students to inspire new generations to choose a future in manufacturing.  During the half day event, groups of students rotated through 3 stations.

Station 1: Students watched a video about why manufacturing could be a good option and a PowerPoint presentation about Avanti Engineering.  They learned about our company philosophy, types of products we make and the industries that use those products.   We shared with the students the different machinery and the quality processes instilled in our day to day operation.  We wrapped up this station discussing career paths available to include our Manufacturing Apprenticeship program and Internships.

Station 2: Students were taken on a tour of our facility.  Starting with Engineering,  the students were given an explanation of how AUTO-CAD  and our new program ESPRIT helps design the product we need and how it relates to the manufacturing process.  Students then walked the production process through departments in the plant to see the machinery working, products made, and how products are shipped after production.   Final stop at this station was at the Quality Department where our quality standards were explained.  Students were welcome to experience hands on some of the measuring devices to see how the equipment works.

Station 3: We took the students to our Sales & Customer Service department.  Here they learned about our dedication to our customers.   They heard about the different types of industries we support for our customers and the types of parts we manufacture for these customers.

Bringing in a modern element this year, the students were told ahead of time to download the app at PTC.com/SmartMFG  to show them how augmented reality, IoT, and additive manufacturing are transforming modern manufacturing.  The app is used with a printed comic book so students could follow the manufacturing of a drone from design and additive manufacturing to assembly and quality testing.  To finish the day, we had some snacks and a giveaway backpack.

MFG Day is a day dedicated for manufacturers to open up their facilities and let students see what manufacturing is.   This is important each year with the growing shortage of skilled labor. As we’ve shared in the past, Avanti Engineering is dedicated to informing the next generation about the opportunities in manufacturing.
